Making water filters.

On Wednsday  October 3, Bob and our class made water filters. We first read a story about a girl named Salila. She saw a turtle in the Ghandis  which was polluted and wanted to help make clean water for it.  So, when we were making our water filters we had to use a plastic bottle with different materials inside. The day before we went into looking at which materials worked the best and why. Anyway, when we were making the filters, each partnership had a glass of contaminated water. There were three types. Soil water, tea water, and cornstarch water. I worked worked with soil water. We tried one design, and then we were able to improve them. The materials we used were cheesecloth, cottonballs, screen, paper filters, gravel, sand, bottles, and a few more. Many of us had major improvements.  Thanks for listening !

Book Update

I have read The Island of Dr.Libris and would love to hear what your thoughts are.  Grabenstein uses his wild imagination and abundant knowledge of literature to compose an unforgettable adventure.  The story toggles between reality and make believe so seemlessly it leaves the reader wondering what is possible.  I loved it!

Science Experiment

We have be looking at three bottles with a bottle on top of them. With water and some other thing in them, like dirt and salt. One of them has just water, another has dirt, and the other one has salt. Every day we come into school and we look at them. The water in the bottles evaporated a little bit. There are little drops in the top bottle and less water in the bottom bottle. We noticed that they all have evaporate a different amount of water ever day. By Jack

National Inspirer

Hello parents. We are playing a game called National Inspirer. In this game you start in a state and try to get the most points by going to different states with different resources. At the end whoever has the most points wins. Here is a picture of team 1 working.
This picture is of Bob at the computer. He's putting everyone's work into it so they can get points.

Joan Lenes came and talked with us about being in the House of Representatives

Today Representative Joan Lenes came in and talked to our class, Bob's class, Mrs Crowther's class, and Vasanthi's class about serving in the House of Representatives. We talked about the sugar tax and other subjects related to the government. Joan Lenes taught us a lot. It was an amazing experience.

Making informational books on famous Vermonters

For the past five or so weeks we've been working on informational books about famous Vermonters. Some of our books are about Thomas Davenport or John Deere. Others are about Lucy Terry Prince and Lila Vanderbuilt Web. Here is Lewis's finished book on Thomas Davenport:
Doesn't it look great!
We hope that all you parents love your kids books.
